How towns work
Town blocks, claim limits, costs and the daily cycle, all in one page.

Land on Survival is split into town blocks. One town block is one Minecraft chunk: 16 ร 16 blocks, from bedrock to sky. A town owns a set of town blocks, and only the people it allows can build there.
๐ Your claim limit
How much land a town can hold depends on how many residents it has:
The formula
Max town blocks = residents ร 8. A solo town can hold 8 town blocks, a 5-player town can hold 40. Bonus blocks can't be bought, so recruiting is the only way to grow.

๐ต What it costs
| Action | Cost | Paid from |
|---|---|---|
| Create a town | $5,000 | Your balance |
| Claim a town block | $25 each | Town bank |
| Claim an outpost | $500 | Town bank |
| Unclaim a town block | No refund | โ |
| Town upkeep | $10 per day | Town bank |
| Create a nation | $250,000 | Town bank |
| Nation upkeep | $4,000 per day | Nation bank |
๐ The daily cycle
Once a day, at 12:00 server time, Towny runs its "new day":
- Each town pays its upkeep from the town bank.
- Residents pay their town tax, if the mayor set one.
- Plot owners pay their plot tax, if any.
Keep your bank topped up
A town that can't pay its upkeep is deleted, with all its claims. Residents who can't pay the town tax are kicked, and plot owners who can't pay the plot tax lose their plot.
๐ท๏ธ Town levels
Your town's title grows with its population:
| Residents | Town title |
|---|---|
| 1 | Settlement |
| 2โ5 | Hamlet |
| 6โ9 | Village |
| 10โ13 | Town |
| 14โ19 | Large Town |
| 20โ23 | City |
| 24โ27 | Large City |
| 28+ | Metropolis |
โ๏ธ Distance between towns
Towns need breathing room. Your claims must stay at least 5 town blocks away from another town's land and from its home block. Towns in the same nation are exempt.
